Meet the newest member of the At Home family.
I picked up Faloola ( Lulu for short) at Hobby Lobby. She was on clearance for $7. She was probably on clearance because she was an awful shade of dark grey.... Lulu needed a makeover bad (and where is Stacy London when you need her?).. and I thought she would be kind of fun to have around (Faloola, not Stacy, I don't need any one telling me about my Mom jeans...)
I wanted an old graveyard kind of look. Not in a creepy way, but in a cool old way. Like the stone had been worn by time... So I base coated Lulu with Van Buren Brown, then over painted her with Monroe Bisque (It's a great Ben Moore color for stone-like looks) then a when the paint was a still little tacky, wiped off with a DRY paper towel. The paint removal isn't as smooth and slick then as with a wet one. Then , after she was dry, I put Burnt Umber in the cracks and wiped it out. I went light with it because my tendency is to have a heavy hand. I put the brown in the eyes initially and then had to take it out. It looked like like she was watching me, so back to white it was!...
Lulu looked much better, which brings me to her hat.
I was playing with some ideas for chandelier shades when my very artistic preschooler said, "That looks like it should be her hat." I plopped one on Lulu's head and the baby began to scream "hat! hat! " and laughed hysterically. Well, after that, how could I not let Lulu have it, especially since the kids thought it was the funniest thing on the planet? Every time the baby sees it she claps and giggles. So, hot glue gun in hand, a bit of trim, and a vintage earring later. Lulu gets a hat.
I guess what good is decorating if you can't have some fun with it?

Do you read Family Circus on the comics page of your daily paper? Sometimes his kids draw the cartoon. I think you have a guest decorator/blogger in your child! Cute story!
