Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of them selves....

I had blogged about this change jar on my old blog and how my Gram had them stashed all over the house. She called them her "Bingo money". When we moved her out we found them in heating ducts and shoved way deep in closets behind huge boxes.
Manuela at The Pleasures of Homemaking  had been talking about how she budgets and believe me, is an amazing budgeter! I am  not any where near as skilled as she is, but I have always had  a change jar for the "extras" around the house..."extras".... meaning unnecessary decorating projects. The best thing  is that change jar half full normally holds about $70! It doesn't take much and It really only takes a few months to fill...so now I am on a new mission. I really want 2 new living room chairs and two new lamps for our bedroom...
So now my old change jar has  a new friend! I have a feeling I'll have the lamps before the chairs; but with a few extra dollars thrown in here and there.. you never know!

  1. What a great idea. My husband has one - I should start one, too. :)

  2. that is a great idea, Jen. We have them all over the place too but never use them for anything! So I'm surprised you haven't decorated your jars yet though. No paint treatments?? no ribbons? :-)

  3. I am so not a good "budgeter". It's an area I really need to improve. Manuela's budgeting skills are amazing!

  4. I have one of those jars as well! I like how you have them labeled though. Gives you the incentive to really save up that loose change if you have a goal in mind! BTW, I can't get the email link to work. If you want you can email me at aj7125@wideopenwest.com

  6. I think you are going to get your two chairs and two lamps. :-)

I keep a change jar too! Almost too heavy to lift now which means it is time to go cash it in.

  8. What a great idea! I am terrible about this stuff. I think I am going to use the next orange juice carton for just this project. Thanks!

  9. When IT Guy and I lived on the farm, we kept a bucket OUTSIDE on the porch for all the change, I don't know how or why that got started, but years after we moved away to the big city (haha), I found that bucket, still full of change, stored away in the garage. Thanks for reminding me of that fun memory.

  10. I think this is a great idea! We have all our change in one place, but I can see how having separate containers would be a good idea. I'm happy to know that there are people out there that still save money for things instead of just going shopping with a credit card!

  13. You should put BlogHer advertising on you blog! That's a great way to make extra money! It's like free money every month when that check shows up in my mail. Email me if you want to know more about it!
