My Favorite thing party!

Hi to my SITSta's!
Thrifty Decor Chick is having a favorite things party!
My favorite piece was this dresser I painted, but after a while it felt so big and boxy in my little living room. Then my Father -in-law offered me this piece.
Now it's my new favorite thing!
Oh, and these. Have you tried these Hershey's candy cane kisses?? I am a chocolate snob. I only eat dark chocolate, except for these. They are like peppermint bark, You can melt them and cover pretzels with them, put them on top of chocolate cookies or cup cakes, melt them and toss Cheerios with them....The list goes on and they are the perfect balance of mint and sweet.... mmmmmmm..
Oh and also my new Christmas T's to be listed on Etsy.. Lime green and super cute! I may have to keep them for myself!

Let the painting fit the house

When painting built-ins, there is always the challenge of  trying to not only make the piece fit the space, but the owners tastes and desires. The owners we're in love with the Arts and Crafts era, but wanted to modernize  and decorate their radiator cabinet a little. They also loved the picture over the  cabinet and wanted to tie in the roses and colors as well.
The only problem  was the way the cabinet was built. The carpenter had made the doors off center with on smaller door and they couldn't decide if they wanted to go ahead and paint it or not.
It was decided leave it black for now.
It would be an easy pattern to duplicate if they decided to go ahead and finish the door, or do something else entirely. I could even come back and repaint black over the second panel to even it out.
The top was also done in an Arts and Crafts as well  to tie the two in together. Those were all considerations in the quest to make a new piece fit an old house.

I hope you had  a great Thanksgiving!

A good, old-fashioned crazy time..my trip to Paducah,Kentucky with friends and Kari and Kijsa....

A good time as had by all in good old Kentucky...
My friends Mary and Nicola were nice enough to brave the 6 hour ride with me and take pictures. They were great travel buddies too...We had  a blast.

We had a great time at Kari and Kijsa's show...
These girls are amazing! So warm, friendly and just plain creatively amazing.
Kijsa is an amazing artist and with KariAnne, she is so creative, you can't help but fall in love.

It was a fun show and I met some fabulous people.

Checked back in with the kids. Even though it was a nice break, I missed them a ton.

We tried to decide what the criteria was for having "cankles" and if we had them or not.

We visited a lovely little tea house.

They had these mirrors which now I am going to figure out how to duplicate. I loved how this looked.

They have this amazing stretch of flood wall murals by a really talented artist named Robert Dafford. The detail and color were amazing. If you go to Paducah, you have to go and see them. They are just beautiful.

They stretched on for about a half mile. They were so life-like we were inspired (though we did get close, we  made sure we didn't actually touch them as to disturb the pain or add wear and tear.).
And we got a little silly.

Shark! Everybody out of the water!

Bon voyage!

Thank goodness there's no fire!

It's  a lovely day to skate!

mmm.. berries!

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

One the last day we met Kijsa at a FABULOUS overstock store named Surplus City..Where we found things we didn't even know we needed.

I think we bought a bit too much!
 :)

Thanks for coming along! And thank you to every one who participated in the party on Thursday!

Come on in! Welcome to the "I made it with scrapbook paper party!!!"

Whhho0000-hooo! Welcome to the party! Grab a drink, break out the chips and dips and let's  see all of the ideas and inspirations!
I've used scrapbook paper quite  a bit...

 On boxes

And my newest favorite...

My kitchen valance. I needed something cheap and with lots of color since Thanksgiving is at our house.
We took down the stained glass window we had hanging in there  because I wanted to change things up a little bit and let in more light for the winter.

This is super easy project was glued (decoupaged) onto ordinary cardboard.  I hot glued trim onto the edge to clean it up, and stuck it on the window trim with my favorite adhesive squares.
So link up and let's see all of your clever projects and ideas! Please put on link on your blog so others can enjoy the party too!

Thrifty finds

Have you ever had days when you go into a thrift store and walk out with nothing? And then other days you find you are walking out with bags and bags? After weeks of finding nothing and running with low stock....I scored big time. Can you tell by the boxes?

The candle sticks were $1.50 for the pair! How cool are they? and I found that little fruit covered soup tureen for $4.oo!

I found a lot of great milk glass and a huge chip/dip bowl for $3.00! I love milk glass in the winter with greenery and red accents.

It even stretched onto the table. You have to love a day of great finds!
