It's not really cheating...

Okay, it's not like I am exactly cheating on Ben with Sherwin;  I mean,...uh... we're not married, so it's not like I can't look.  Right?  I mean I like Ben, I've introduced him to a  lot of people...but he broke my heart.
When I first painted my living room, Ben had this amazing shade of yellow. I stared at the paint chip, enamored.I happily painted my wall with this deep, buttery, lush yellow only to find in full day light it was LEMON...AAACK!
So this time, I pulled out my fan deck looking for something again warm, light yet lush and buttery.  Sadly, Ben has disappointed me. I have not been able to find anything to make me happy, so today I did it. I put my Benjamin Moore fan decks in the drawer and secretly drove over to our Sherwin-Williams store, picking up appealing chips. I really hate sneaking around like that, but what else can a girl do? It's  a part of the quest for the perfect color...Now, if Sherwin doesn't pull through, I might have to pay Ralph Lauren a visit....

  1. Yellows are hard. I had a living room wall that was yellow in my old house--it went through about 5 shades until I got it right! Me--I am a fan of Behr paint.

  2. I know, I know .... you've just got to go where they've got the goods.

I still haven't repainted my kitchen ..... which was supposed to be a "kraft paper" shade of brown ... bit with the ambient lighting in the house.. It has a calf diarrhea shade to it ....ugh!

  3. Colors are hard..I think red and yellow can be touchy if you don't pick the right one! Good picking!

  5. You 2-Timer!!! I'm aghast!!!

I love the paint from LOWE's...TRADITIONAL HOME, I think it is. I used to ONLY use BEHR and about 4 years ago switched, cuz I don't LOVE Home Depot anymore.

Hmmmmmmmm...well, I at least broke up with one before I started seeing another...LOL!!!

  8. Sometimes it is good to date(look) around a little. See whats out there. So you can pick the one that suits you. lol I like Martha Stewart and Behr. I just look at all paint chips looking for the right color, not really looking at the name brand. Ralph lauren seems to have the nice hip colors though.mishelle

  9. LOL! Yellows are THE hardest color because they are so influenced by light. I can't tell you how many yellows I went through untill I found one that looked good in natural light and at night! Good luck!

  10. Hi Jen! Been there, done that! Hubby and I just painted the kitchen this past weekend using Sherwin. We love this paint...goes on super smooth and covers everything with one good coat. I was looking for a soft yellow too. We ended up with "Napery" which is a soft beigh-y, yellow, cream color. We love how it turned out! Good luck with your selection ~ xo Joy

  13. I know the problem well. This past week I was off work and decided to paint. The previous owners had painted Lowes Olympic Pony Tail, I wanted a warmer color. I purchased 5 samples of what I thought was the perfect color only to find none. I finally came across Broome by Ralph Lauren at Home Depot had it mixed with Behr paint base and LOVE IT!

  16. I recommend Sherwin William's Biltmore Buff. It is a very nice, warm neutral--not too yellowy. Porter Paint's Neutral Beige is also nice--very similar to Biltmore Buff. Good Luck!

  17. This post cracked me up! I try to remain faithful to Martha... I am sucked in by the names of her colors more than anything. lol

  18. That was just too FUNNY!! Looks like you have some great chips to choose from. I know paint can be funny sometimes. Ya think ya love it until it's on the walls. I remember years ago painting my dining room green. Oh, it was green alright.....like something you would but in a kid's room. But, I went and got more tint in it and it tured out just fine. Good luck.

  19. What a hussy you are. I wish the Parlor at my church could take a lesson from you but no...the way to bright lemon yellow will stay as is. You know how straitlaced Parlors can be - no curiosity - just stick with the wrong color. Loved your post!!! Nancy

  20. I've always thought Sherwin was a hottie! Yellow is such a hard color to get right. As an example of what NOT to do...my guest bedroom. The yellow is hideous..but I just hate to paint! I guess this year I'll have to break down and fix that mess. If you find the perfect yellow let me know!

  21. Girl, it's OK to cheat a little bit. All the boys know it's important to love the paint color more than anything else!!

  22. I am sooo with you on the trials of finding a good yellow.

I've been putting off repainting my bedroom for that very reason.
I like the color it is now, but I know I'll never get the color right again.

Please let us know when you find a good butter yellow.

  23. Oh, oh, I think I'm kind of cheatin' on Ben too. I go over to Ben's "house" borrow a few ideas(colours), and off I go to General Paint's house where the deals are cheaper. LOL
Great job with the murals in the kids bedrooms ! Friends have asked me too paint murals in their kids' bedrooms but there an awful lot of work aren't they !

...and thanks for popping in to my blog !

    Cheers,
