Accidental collections

I didn't start out collecting milk glass, but somehow, bits and pieces  found their way into my house. Looking around, I have  a lot more than I thought. When I need a certain size container to hold something, they just seem to work perfectly.
This little handled mug holds my drying paint brushes.
And this is the perfect spot for all of those yucky kitchen sponges.

And right now, this catch-all is holding light bulbs, though someday it's keys and some day's it just overflows with stuff.
In my bathroom this is the perfect place for all of the hair accessories and baubles from a house full of girls.

And this one, though innocent looking,

has screws, nails and a razor blade for all of my furniture repairs.

And this one is a gentle reminder to my kids to eat their 5-9 a day.
Do you have any "accidental" collections hanging around your house?
and you can visit The Charm House for more collections!

  1. I love your milk glass. I collect milk glass with full intentions. I have discovered however, that I am a chair-aholic, and a little wooden box-aholic. Those would have to be my accidental collections.

  2. My collection isn't out year-round. I realized a couple years ago that I do indeed have a collection of snowmen, didn't even realize I was "collecting" them. ;)

I'm slowly starting to collect white dishes and handblown glass Christmas ornaments, so those are my new obsessions!

  14. Hey Jen, I stumbled upon your blog sometime ago and then something in my brain made me go - "Crap, what happened to that girl who makes the bulletin boards?" I searched feverishly through all of my old posts until I found you and then - gasp! I got totally caught up in your blog! Forget making dinner, forget the laundry, forget asking the kids about their day (what kids?) I have been totally enrapt in your blog for the last um, hour! I will at some point have to go make dinner and greet the kids (hehe), but for now I will finish my coffee and look some more! ~Kim

  15. No accidental collections in my house. But, seeing your bathroom milkglass reminded me that just this morning I was thinking that I needed to get a pretty little holder for our bathroom sink. I use a lot of bobby pins and have a bad habit of leaving them strewn about all over my side of the sink. It would be very handy to have a pretty little cup on the sink to corral my little hair pins.

  17. Isn't milk glass so handy? I have a collection of it as well. I use one for fruit and another in the bathroom also. I like the idea for sponges near the sink. I don't know how the collection started either probably my MIL's fault!!

  21. Hi Jen,
Enjoyed seeing all your milk glass. It looks so much better when it has a purpose! ha I think we all take the pieces we see at the thrift stores a a little for granted, don't you? I am looking for a compote like yours with the oranges in it. I joined this party also. Would love to have you visit. Linda

  23. Hey chickie...I have a milk glass "collection" now too lol... there are books on milk glass, with fabulous photos of some neat looking pieces-- very interesting stuff! Anywho, did you know that the small container holding your light bulbs is made to sit inside the larger matching container that is holding your oranges? I think that it is a 3 piece set.... I just thought I'd mention it incase you didn't know :-)

  26. Your milk-glass pieces are lovely. I've always been intrigued by milk-glass, though I don't have any. They're always out of my price range when I see them. I think my only accidental collection is willow-tree figurines. I gave one to a friend, and since then people keep giving them to me! Which is ok, because I like them.
