Have you ever walked passed an item at the store or yard sale like this...
or maybe this...
.... (but hopefully not this)
and hemmed and hawed about it and either you went back to get it and it was gone, or you got home and now it's too late...Can you recall the exact moment or item? Do you still think about that item?
I recall an entire box of antique , carved picture frames for $10 at an estate sale. There were about 15 frames. I still kick myself...

I am learning - after husband started going to yard/garage sales with me last year - he said if you want it - get it - then no regrets. Some things just give you that gut" feeling they should come to live at your home - with you right now.
ReplyDeleteNo, I would not have purchased that half goat either.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
OH YES!

Always Jen! Those chairs were so beautiful!! hugs, Vanessa
ReplyDeleteI am reading your post.
ReplyDeleteyes, i have kicked myself, but then I kick myself again when i come across a whole box of vintage sheet music for $5.
have a great {day on your back}!!
actually, jen, that happens a lot to me. i can never picture it while i'm looking at it. then i walk away thinking about it...then i have an einstein idea, go back and it's gone :(
ReplyDeletehappy wednesday!
OH YES - I still bring up a few things I let get away and bring it up...years later. My kids are like, "Let IT GO, MOM!" :) And typically because it was $15 instead of the $10 I wanted to pay...ugh. That's when I really kick myself.
ReplyDeleteThe frames, I'll be mourning then with you.
oh no, not a box of frames for $10??? I'd be sick, too. I'm sure I've had a few regrets in my life time like this! Love the chairs!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
Yes I have done that over an adorable pink little baby doll bed. I have hated that I didn't grab it. I had the money and it was only like less then $20. I still am shaking my head now leaving this comment! :) I just had to say your not alone!

There are these vintage valentines that I saw once at an antique shop and thought it was silly that I should want them so badly. Went back later to get them and they were gone! Now, I do wish I had gotten them, but it's okay! :)
ReplyDeleteYep it's happend to me also. It was a gorgeous old pie safe. It still makes me want to cry when I think of it.
ReplyDeleteI try not to think about it.......too depressing.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, have I! But then I would have bought the half of goat!
ReplyDeleteThe Texas Woman
We have a sign by our store counter that says:
ReplyDelete"I should have bought it...when I saw it"
Can't tell you how many times that sign closed the sale for us... a little psychology never hurts!!!
Regarding the goat, maybe a crown will help!! LOL
Yep, been there done that...but I'd walk away from that goat! LOL Mumzie
ReplyDeletealways always
ReplyDeleteyes - it's definitely one of the risks we run in this high-stakes game! however, being the realist - i just have to say that i have mourned things that i did buy, too:) like the footstool made out of old coffee cans covered with (dirty) fabric. ewww! but may i just add also - i was in the throes of postpartum depression at the time. oh my.
ReplyDeleteI definitely have had remorse over the one that got away, that I didn't buy. And some remorse over things I did buy. I try to tell myself that there is always more junk out there, but I hate seeing someone haul something fabulous away from a garage sale because they got there 2 minute before me.
ReplyDeleteYep, been there so many times!
ReplyDeleteLuLu
Oh, how many times I have done that exact thing, and yes I think about it ever after that. It seems I never regret the things I did get, only the treasures I didn't bring home. Linda
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many times this has happened to me. Too many to list. There are those times I've went with my gut feeling and got some amazing buys too. So, I like to think it balances out.
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are amazing, it would be hard to pass them up.
Have a happy day
Kris
I USED to have that problem, now if I love it I buy it, right then. If I can afford it, that is. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I am regretting that I didn't see those chairs in the first picture and purchase them! Yes, I've had regrets, but not too many! If I love it and the price is right, I usually get it. laurie
ReplyDeleteBeen there done that. lol mishelle
ReplyDeleteYes, I do! And then there are times when I do the opposite and buy something and wish I hadn't! Ugh!
ReplyDeleteOh well... Something better will come along!
Smiles,
Jen
Yes, we all kick ourselves. I kicked myself recently over an ebay listing for a gorgeous Red Cliff soup tureen with grape motif. I was outbid at the last second by 50 cents - FIFTY CENTS!!!!! It sold for $16.50 plus shipping - normally they go for $125+ - what was I thinking????Why did I give a maximum bid!Oh, well.....we have to move on! Linda
ReplyDeleteYes, I have quite a few regreats, but the sun does come up the next day and all is well.
ReplyDeleteYes...I also really hate it when I buy something out of the pure panic of getting my hands on everything first and as I am walking away, think to myself, do I really need this? ugh...the pain of yard sales. All my common sense goes out the window!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. It was a desk at value village. The drawer fronts were gorgeously carved, and the white paint was half stripped off. By the time I convinced myself to buy it, it was gone. It still makes me sad, because it was the only time I've ever come across a solid-wood potentially gorgeous piece of furniture for a decent price.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! I don't think I realized you lived near Chicago. Do you have anything to add to the recent Chicago posts?
ReplyDeleteI should have bought a vintage sheet that I wanted to make pj pants out of. :( Went back to the thrift store and of course it wasn't there. :( oh well. Kelly
