Reflections of...

I recently attended an interior redesign class. One of the two things I had come away with was there should be 7 sources of light in a room , including lamps, windows and mirrors...and  if your mirror isn't reflecting something pleasing to look at when you look into it, then you either have to change what it's reflection or where the mirror is...In fact she said the number one mistake is to put a mirror on a fireplace mantle. Most of the time it just reflects the ceiling or  a bad ceiling fan.
With that in mind,  I thought would see if I passed the test..

Good
Good
oops!
Better.  :)
How are your reflections?

  1. ugh, the ceiling fan reflection! I had that one going on for a while. Unfortunately it was also one of the ugliest ceiling fans on earth, so the mirror made it look like I had 2 of these monsters.

  2. Thanks for that information about the 7 sources of light. I'm happy to say I passed, but I can't say I knew what I was doing when I did it!

  5. Interesting. I have always loved a mirror over the mantle. I don't actually have one up there now because I need a really large one and I haven't found one for the right price yet. If there was one there, it would reflect our staircase. Not bad I guess. :)

  13. Looking good here :) Not too many mirrors as I have very little wall space...too many windows, which I think is a good thing.

  14. I have four windows, five mirrors, one lamp, and two overhead lights in my living room...excessive? LOL. My mirrors' reflections could be better. But they're all really small. I'll have to tweak them. I really like that prism-y thing you have in front of one of your mirrors. Pretty!

  15. Yours looked great, but my mirror above my fireplace reflects the chandy and makes the room look bigger, so i don't totally agree on that.lol

  16. OK, now I'm running around the house to see if I pass the test!
Does things placed in front of the mirror count? And what about the bathroom mirror? You can't imagine what it reflects first thing in the morning!
Great tip. I'm ready for my second lesson, teacher.

  18. Thanks for the reminder about the mirrors, I will be checking mine too. I have never been accused of not having enough lamps, ha. I have a thing for lamps- don't think you can ever have too many, do you? Have a wonderful day. Linda

  23. JEN! Was I teaching this class and didn't realize it?? I tell everyone I know that about the mirror over the mantle...I've been too afraid to mention it because I'm worried people will be offended. :0 So I'm glad you said it first -- ha!!!
It was the best piece of advice I've ever gotten though -- it reflects all the "ugly" in the room. And you have to get really creative instead of throwing a mirror up there...great post!
