Working it...

I would love to blog and write full-time; but I actually have a real job (Besides being  a mom-
I love being an artist too, but in this economy, art doesn't buy much goldfish and mac-n- cheese.).
I work for  a health care company. We go to large companies and draw blood and take blood pressures and give health advice. I like my job. Except for one part. Okay, two parts. First, most of the blood draws we do are fasting, so we have to be there in the morning. Early in the morning. Thursday morning I had to be in Chicago at 5 am. That's right people. I had to get up at 3:30 A. M. The bonus is I had done with 8 hours by noon.
The second part is we wear red shirts and black pants. Do NOT EVER go into Target after a morning of working wearing a red shirt and black pants- Not unless you want to be asked where the  hemorrhoid cream is by perfect strangers. Not kidding.  This is while innocently buying transfer paper. Dude, I was in the  paper aisle-No where near the "hemorrhoid cream." When have they EVER put THAT even remotely near the paper (not even toilet paper!)? but come on, Even my kids know that. The worst part is I could tell him exactly where it was. I go to Target way too much.
Which brings me to my pictures. I was making new market bags with these really great vintage images (such as below.) with the transfer paper (that was no where near the hemorrhoid cream.),

and I was so excited to see how they turned out. I printed them  and got ready to iron on said images.....
Directions are a good thing. Unless you don't read them. So when you've gotten up at 3:30 am and then realize you've printed out an entire stack of transfer paper with your images, and  that you forgot to flip them so they would read the right way when you iron them on, you know it's going to be a rough day. Because unfortunately, no one wants to buy a bag with a backwards alphabet on it.
Without even considering the you-know-what cream.

  4. BUMMER! I get so mad at myself when I do things like that (and trust me, that is plenty!)!

  5. Cute stuff. What exactly is transfer paper and how does it work? That's funny about Target because I have totally asked someone in red where something was and they said, "I don't work here" indignantly. Opps.

  6. Sounds like my last few days....lots of mistakes and lessons learned!

  7. Target? Heck, I should get paid to tell people where things are there. I swear I help more than the employees. Okay, the cream? I don't think I'd ask anyone that question - LOL.
Honey, I have had more than my fair share of days like those and all too often lately, that's for sure.

Here's to better days and no hemorrhoids.

  8. I'm so sorry. This sounds like a page out of my life. If there is a way to screw something up, I will do it and then some. You do have to find the humor in things, makes the mistakes easier to handle.

Can't wait to see the bags though!

lol! I asked a FedEx delivery lady to cut fabric in Walmart the other day. She was not pleased!

  10. I think mess ups like that are why my 2 year old knows one too many bad words. HA! Bless your heart- I feel your pain!

Oh- and once you fix them, I want one! :0)

  13. Not fun when you're a full time career woman, a mum of toddlers, a wife and everything! Ahh... I know how it is, girl!

Sit down & chill out for a moment. Do you care for a quick chilling out?

    Your worth it! No worries...

    Enjoy ur w/end.

  15. I HATE getting up early! So I'm impressed that you're functional at that hour LOL! I've had my fair share of mistakes like that, I'm sure everyone has. It's khaki bottoms and a red shirt at Target - I worked part time there about 10 years ago. But I know what you mean, I have a red polo shirt and I never wear it when I go to Target!

  16. Oh I know those kind of days! I think the bags will be cute and worth it in the end. In the meantime though, can you point me to the direction of the tampons?!

  18. Too funny! I've almost done the same thing many a time. And I also took the finish of our kitchen table doing the transfers...opps!

  19. Oh, I'm so glad someone else does that kind of thing! I do it all too frequently, and I didn't have to put in 8 hrs. before noon! You sure have a great way of expressing humor about it. You had me laughing, even though I know it wasn't funny! laurie

  20. Aw, that sounds like something I would do! (Ok, I'm sure I have done it before) But I bet your bags will look amazing once you have the transfers sorted out! I have a teacher friend who would probably love one with the fancy alphabet.

  21. Way to stay positive. The only good that comes out of a mistake is you know next time what NOT to do.
I can totally relate to the early hours. I work at an Orthopedic Surgery Center 4 days a week. Each of those days I'm up at 4 a.m. I have a 45 minute commute and have to be there by 6 a.m. Most of my days are 10+ hours, but I'm thankful for the (REAL) job, but would rather be painting.

  22. LOL! What a great story. Except for the getting up at 3:30 am part.

Love the images. Your bags must have turned out great...love to see them!

  23. You seriously have a real job too? I thought you were busy when I didn't know about the "real" job! Do you ever sleep? Especially when you are waking up at insane hours like 3:30 am? Girl, you are wonder woman!

  24. Oh my goodness, you are funny! I am laughing and I needed it! Can't wait to see the bags they are going to be FAB!

  25. I don't know...I kind of think a backwards alphabet has a certain je ne sais quois about it...ha ha.

  26. OMG...once again I am laughing at a Jen less-than-stellar day. Sorry 'bout that. :-) But the sentence that starts, "Do NOT EVER go into Target..."...is just about the funniest thing EVER.

Hope things are looking up (and not up the hemorrhoid cream aisle, for that matter) for you!

  27. I'm new here.
Can you tell more about the transfer paper?
You are putting vintage photos on bags?
    How?

    Great vintage art.

    Thanks

    Blessings,
    Barbara Jean
