I fell in love with the new Restoration Hardware catalog.
Looking through the pages,
one thing I noticed were the books in the background missing their covers.

I loved the difference with the organic textures and colors. Even though I didn't have a big place to do a large grouping of them; I thought a little accent might be nice.
I had a few books lying around from Goodwill waiting for a project or two. At first I started to try to rip the covers off "Phone book vs. strongman style..." and then after a few puny attempts I realized there was a reason God made razor blade knives.
I removed the covers and pages until I found text I liked...
The top one had the word was a few pages in.
I started removing covers from other books around my house too... Mr. R just gave me that look and rolled his eyes.
How could you not love such a simple thing?

How clever an idea. Love it! Have a lovely weekend. TTFN ~ Marydon
ReplyDeleteWould NEVER have thought of that. Really interesting look! Neat.
ReplyDeleteCool idea. My husband has rolled his eyes at me so many times, they're about to stay that way!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, easy make over! That is, with the help of a razor blade:) We love our Restoration catolog, too!
ReplyDeleteKarla & Karrie
Love that look, so much better to remove the covers than to just pitch them because they are not interesting. I really like them tied with jute or ribbon.
ReplyDeleteOh, men!
Debra
I love the beauty of impracticality!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteNow if I could just find my razor blade... ;)
they look fresh and definitely create interest. i really like the look if tying them together in bundles with ribbon. i love how you make your key a focal point by placing it on top of a stack of books...looks great!xo
ReplyDeleteit may look neat but this book lover could not stand to rip covers off her books.
ReplyDeleteThat is very cool looking. If you want the same type of effect without the commitment, you can put your books on your shelf backwards... that's what I do with all my random, (embarassing) books. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I love the look. I covered some of my books in burlap a couple of weeks ago, but maybe I should go rip it back off?
ReplyDeleteHee. Hee.
Thanks for sharing,
Traci
I know what I am doing later tonight. They are the best looking spineless things I have ever seen. Thanks for showing them to us.

I SO LOVE THIS Jen!! What a great idea to just make a display with a stack ~ gorgeous! xxoo, Dawn
ReplyDeleteLOVE it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by and joining as a follower and I have done the same.
I look forward to getting to know you better.

I love this idea. Thanks for the razor blade tip because I would have probably destroyed the book trying to get the cover off!

This is something I would have never thought to do. I love the look! I'm sitting here eyeballing a stack of books on my mantle...hmmm.
ReplyDelete-FringeGirl
loooove it. can't wait to see it in person!!!
ReplyDeletei'm almost on my way!!!
xoxo
Oh yes. I too have been "on a tear". If I knew what I was doing (technically speaking) I would link you to my post with my torn up books. I'll just tell you about it for now ----
ReplyDeleteI used short stacks of these books tied together with torn strips of muslin and stacked them down the middle of the table -- then used them to elevate the candles. This was for a ladies dinner at my house. It was a wonderful look.
I love the texture and the colors --- so soothing to me.
My husband stopped rolling his eyes at me several years ago --- of course, we've been married 37 yrs. now --- so he's just gotten used to it by now, I guess. :)
Love your post. Always fun stuff.

I'm fairly certain my husband would have a conniption fit if I did this, but it is really neat! I'd probably do it with books that already have badly tattered covers.
ReplyDeleteyep, i'm loving the look! now i have to get my hands on some tattered books to rip.
ReplyDeleteLuLu
I noticed Cindy (queen of tarte) had books like this all over her booth at the farm chicks and I thought it was a neat idea...yours look beautiful Jen!! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea for those doing a monochromatic room. Love it!

before i forget - i'm not usually a fan of music on blogs..........BUT.....i love your music! sometimes i leave your blog open just to listen, hah!
ReplyDeletethat is such a fabulous look with the books. there are certain things in life that are hard for me to do: lie, steal, set a coffee cup on top of my Bible, gamble, refinish furniture that's beautiful on it's own & remove the front & back of a book.
i really want to do this but i think i might feel like i'm sinning, just kidding! wouldn't it look great in stacks with burlap straps for a book club
tablescape?
Looks very cool...and I have to say that I've been trying to guess the original title of your post. I've got two clever ideas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic idea! I love them! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Nancy
ReplyDeleteWow these look fab - would go with any colour scheme too - thanks for sharing. thanks also for your comment on my blog :)

OK, I've seen these before and thought that they looked wicked cool! Will have to give it a whirl. I've been wanting to do something like this for a display at the store! Thanks gurl!

That is a really neat idea... although I'd be hard pressed to rip the book off any cover. Call me sentimental :)
ReplyDeleteI do like the idea of trying to rip them off by hand... great way to get rid of some frustration -- although the razor sounds much more precise if you're going after results!
I loved this idea too. Looks great and laughing that you actually did it in front of your husband...silly girl:-)
