Kitchen hutches are the new black....

What's old is new again...
Hoosiers, hutches ,china cabinets and the look of...
All back in style baby.
And I think we need a linky party to celebrate it.
In doing out mini-kitchen remodel, I am considering many things. One of them is cabinetry, what I am finding to be really, really expensive cabinetry. Those cabinet people want my kids college fund.
One thing that I discovered in shopping, is that for the same amount of storage but a third of the price, I can get a used hutch.

So we are actually going to rip out some cabinets out, and put a hutch in for a more furniture/historic feel.

I know a lot of you clever girls are already onto this. I think we need a cabinet/hutch party.

I won't have one to share yet, but I would love to see what all of you have done with yours and how you display with it.

I need some inspiration....
Here is my recent Craigslist purchase...

It's so big it almost didn't fit on my van, but it needs a coat of paint or two, a few new handles, and can't be moved in until after everything is done in October.

So for now, I want to enjoy yours! Let's call it Hook up your Hutch!
Mark your calenders for next  Wednesday September 22. We'll link up! I want to see all of your china cabinet make-overs, hutch displays and clever, creative, pretty cabinet  ideas! Do you use them in a bedroom? Laundry room? Kitchen? Let's see! Go ahead and grab the button as a photo if you want to put it in you sidebar. You'll just have to paste and copy to link it.

See you there!

Jen

  5. Oh, what a fun idea! I don't have a hutch. If I did, I'd want one like that black one in your post, with all the great greenery. Divine! :)

  6. Sweet! My current 100 yr old kitchen is practically ENTIRELY made up of furniture...including two hutches! I bought a tall narrow bookcase at a garage sale last week for $30 bucks..thinking it would make great pantry space (also knowing how much MORE it would've cost as new "cabinetry."

Your hutch looks wonderful! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it! I'm looking forward to seeing all of the party links too!

  12. I am a cabinetmaker that wants your childs college fund! (just kidding) I love hutches and could make any of those hutches you pictured. The reason that new ones cost so much is the time it takes to make one. I figure at least 40 hours if there are doors and drawers and shelves, etc. I blogged about making mine, and will hook up next week if that's okay.

  13. i wish i had a big beautiful hutch. love that look, but this house too itty bitty for it. there's just no place to put it. i was wondering if you could separate the top and bottom of that hutch? kind of like the 2nd picture and put corbels under the top part. it would give you an extra storage/display spot on the top of the bottom (not sure if that made sense!). i think that would look cool!

  14. Love your post! I have been reorganizing my kitchen today and then I read your post on your hutch. I have a small hutch in my kitchen and use it as a place for seasonal decorations and as a paper catch all. I just realized I could be using the closed storage below for my seasonal bake ware. It would free up so much room in my cabinets! Thanks so much for pointing out a simple solution to my problem. Now if I can just take some photos and link them up. One thing at a time.

  15. My husband made me a hutch two years ago for Christmas. We just repurposed it as an entertainment center. One day I hope to use it as a hutch again, but for now, this works.

  22. I have a hutch in my kitchen and love the look. I will never part with it. I love the look of the older hutches because they have more character and style.

  28. Amazing! I, too, am a hutch fanatic! I have two in the laundry room (one I had to pice an old oil filter display with the bottom of a hoosier, two in the kitchen, one in the dining room, two in the living room, 3 in my office, on in the hall bath, 2 in the guest room, and one on the front porch--missing the top! I hope you'll scoot on over to my blog--I'm featuring one of my favorite shops as my White Wednesday post!
