Dark, chocolatey goodness....

While I enjoy cooking for my family; I really love to BAKE.
One of my favorite recipes comes from this book by Nigella Lawson.. How to be  a domestic goddess
It has some of the yummiest baking recipes ever. Most of my husband's family is from across the pond in England, so I  identify a bit with her recipes. We enjoyed watching her first show when it was on Style network years ago called Nigella Bites.

This is one of our favorites. It's a dense, dark, moist, chocolatey, but heavenly cake that is awesome with a morning cup of coffee.
Even though I think the recipe is  a bit fussy, it's so worth it.

The light color of the mixed batter doesn't come anywhere close to conveying how fabulous this cake is going to be. I think it's better made with organic flour, eggs and pasture butter, but that's just me. :)

When it comes out, it's actually better to let it stand over night, but lot's of times I can hardly contain myself,
and I barely bother with a fork and just shove and entire piece in my mouth at once like the glutton I am, occasionally pausing to exhale. I found a version for you of the recipe here.

  6. Ok, Jen - you're gonna LOVE me after this:

Last night, I was watching "The Best Thing I Ever Ate for Brunch" -and one of them went to the Le Parker Meridian in New York (of course) and they had CHOCHOLATE FRENCH TOAST. Made with a loaf - not unlike yours.....

They put a bit of orange juice, egg, cinnamon & allspice in the french toast batter. Dipped the chocolate slices in it, and griddled until brown. THEN. They topped it off with strawberries that were flambeed in butter & grand marnier. Of course all of it topped with fresh whipped cream. And then real maple syrup.

Shoot me now. AND you have the loaf to make that....ENJOY!

    Merry Christmas, friend.
