Wacky Wednesday....let's play the photoshop my kitchen game...

"...It all began with that shoe on the wall, shoe on the wall shouldn't be there at all!!!"

I've been getting e-mails  from various bloggers and friends about seeing my kitchen around the web. It's kind of weird that all that came out of from one photo shoot for Country Living. While I am so completely flattered, and not criticizing by any means, this one made me laugh(Thanks 'Cuz.), because there was just a little photo editing magic done. I felt like I was reading the book Wacky Wednesday to my Little where you have to pick out everything that is just  a bit different.
This is from the most recent sighting on the  MSN.real estate page
So let's play a version of that picture game where you look at one picture and the other to compare and see what is different... I can spot at least 3... can you see any more? Some of them were some styling choices and were not digitally edited out. I'll post the answers at the very bottom.

Here is a similar picture from when my kitchen was first completed..

and  two more recent ones.

and here is MSN's pic

How did you do? :)

Jen

1. everything was brightened to ultra white... what I like to refer to as crazy teeth bleached white.
2.the chandelier swag was chopped out
3.Did you know I got a stainless steel fridge? Umm I wish... they made my old fridge seem like it's stainless
4. They photo shopped out the handle on the cabinet next to the fridge
5. They got rid of the bottom of my cook book stand under the cabinet to the left of the stove.
6. Oh, and there's no cracker crumbs on the floor or  a half spilled box of cereal that no one bothered to clean up.

  1. That's hilarious. I vote for the cracker crumb version. It must be flattering though to see your kitchen around the web. Well deserved!

  2. they changed what you had to a bowl of green apples on the island, the tea towel is gone and replaced, the dining chair is gone, so is the mat in front of the sink! They changed your whole counter look....awful!!

I much prefer the original as was by you!!!

And now we know that magazines don't just do this with people...they do it with whatever they want!

  3. Towels changed out....bowls added in place of what you had....love your original version much better!

  4. They also changed your island top to white, the rug is gone and the walls look gray.

  5. They switched out the light over the sink and they removed the signs over the curtained doorway. Do you know who is responsible? Are your posted pics "fair game" and vulnerable to piracy like that all the time? Do you have to watermark everything you post to avoid this or would they just photoshop that out, too. Btw...I have your true kitchen picture pinned. I love it so much!

  10. Does anyone even live in kitchen no.2? That's like a kitchen from a showcase home. I like kitchen no.1 much better.

  12. It's like a parallel universe where old refrigerators and swags don't exist. Creepy universe.

  13. I don't know why they needed to touch anything up.It looks amazing the way it was.See you can't always believe what you see.

  14. I don't know why they would take something that looked great the way it was and change it that way, Jen! How crazy! Besides models and celebrities, do they really need to edit and photoshop rooms that looked great to begin with.

  15. Jennifer, it was fun to compare. It's amazing what magazines doctor up. In this instance, they made many mistakes. I remember seeing the Country Living version, and it looked so cold. Your true kitchen is warm, charming and truly amazing! I much prefer yours! Thanks for sharing it with us.

  16. I noticed the mat or lack of and they hung a light over your sink.

  17. Oh my! Isn't that something! I guess they figure if they make enough changes it's theirs! There are a lot of changes they've made. I guess ultimately it's flattering that they liked yours so much they couldn't resist using it- even if they altered it! I don't like how sterile theirs is- yours has realism.

  18. It's like a game of I spy...love your "before" with your pop of green, crumbs and all :)

  19. How crazy! I can't believe you're finding photoshopped pics of your home online! The only change they made that I like is the pendent light over the sink. Otherwise your version is more charming. Do YOU like any of their changes?

  20. Wow, do they even have the right to do that? They should have left well enough alone, your original photo and kitchen is much warmer and stylish than their generic PS version.

  21. They also removed the signs above your drapery door and they gave the impression that your stove was stainless (along with the fridge.)

  22. first of all...what's with this new comment section -

anyhow: MSN obviously has the most critical readers - all very sarcastic - and you know what I think they need? some pie...pie cures everything Jenn

  24. Hi Jen, I enjoyed reading this post & the other one you wrote about being published. Thanks for educating us about this. I absolutely LOVE the way you accessorized & stylized your kitchen. I think the "after photoshop" version is a bit too sterile. Either way though, what an amazing kitchen.

    Warmly, Michelle
